"For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down, we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands. We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies like new clothing." Preaching from the opening verses of 2 Corinthians 5, Senior Associate Pastor Pete Bowell reminds us that our earthly bodies are temporary tents and our heavenly bodies will be permanent dwellings.
Pete speaks of the tension of this series between a vision for heaven and knowing the painful reality of death in our present world. While we live in this present world, we can balance looking forward to heaven with the pleasure of this life: extending kindness to ourselves because God has been kind to us, celebrating the joys of life on this earth, and living in the fullness of this life as we prepare for the greatness of eternal life with God.
